Action, Criticism, and Theory for Music Education: ACT publishes refereed and invited critical, analytical, theoretical, and policy development articles of international interest that illuminate, extend or challenge the Action Ideals of the MayDay Group. Research based in and across a variety of disciplinary perspectives is thus encouraged and welcomed: e.g. education, music, philosophy, sociology, history, psychology, curriculum. Frequency of issues is determined by submissions, approvals, and technical preparation.
  3. Music, Equity & Social Justice: Deborah Bradley hosts this column which, to date, has involved information, a bibliography, and lively dialog about race and gender as aspects of social justice in music education and its practices- another aspect relevant to an 'ethics' of music teaching.
  4. Cultural Diversity in Music Education - CDIME: From its beginnings in Amsterdam in 1991, CDIME has grown beyond its initial brief of studying the phenomenon of 'teaching world music'. Conferences are every two years. CDIME XII, its twelfth major international conference, will be held in Helsinki, Finland and convened jointly by the University of the Arts Helsinki, Sibelius Academy and Nepal Music Center, Kathmandu, Nepal. This conference will examine various theoretical and practical aspects relevant to the area of cultural diversity in music education.

  6. GLSEN: Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network: Everyday GLSEN works to ensure that LGBT students are able to learn and grow in a school environment free from bullying and harassment. This is a great resource!

  9. Planning to Change the World - A Plan Book for Social Justice Teachers: This book is for educators who believe their students can and will change the world. It is designed to help teachers translate their vision of a just education into concrete classroom activities.
  10. Afghan Music Project: The Afghan Music Project (AMP) is a mixed media social venture, seeking to raise awareness of Afghan culture through music.   1. Fabian "FARBEON" Saucedo epitomizes the Hip Hop Renaissance. As an artist, educator and agent of change he has graced stages, panels and classrooms globally, from the streets of Spanish Harlem to the halls of Georgetown University to the former USSR air-force hangers of Hip Hop KEMP in the Czech Republic. Hip Hop Re:Education is an interdisciplinary approach to teaching and learning that relies on an array of best practices to meet the needs of today's global learner. Remixing education to include arts-integration, digital media and youth-centered curricula, Hip Hop Re:Educators encourage youth to commit to a craft and invest in the creative process.
  2. GroundSpark: It's Elementary: One of our members suggested this video as a resource on how to approach sensitive subjects in school. It's specific to LGBT but also offers suggestions on how to handle name calling, stereotyping, and community building that may also be applicable to other discussions.
